WINS Natural Flood Management: Constraints for Bog Restoration
This dataset was created for the Welsh Information for Nature Based Solution or WINS project (Previously known as SCCAN) to identify opportunities to carry out land management interventions to increase ecosystem service delivery in a number of key policy areas. There is an accompanying User Guide to assist in the use of these datasets. A full list of datasets used and data limitations can be found in the project technical report. What the map shows: This map shows the number of constraints to bog restoration for natural flood management. Constraints to hard engineering solutions are not considered.

How the map has been created: To create the constraints heatmap for bog restoration, the number of different constraints coinciding in any one area has been calculated. The individual constraints considered for bog restoration were: - Areas unlikely to remain suitable for supporting bog habitats under a climate change scenario. - Areas falling outside of the catchment zones 'Gentle headwaters' or 'Headwaters floodplains'. In these areas bog restoration is unlikely to have noticeable NFM effects This dataset was produced for Environment Systems Ltd under contract to NRW.

-
Data gaps and limitations: National Phase 1 dataset is likely out of date in many places.
