Digital grain sizing of Welsh shingle beaches
This dataset consists of particle size analysis of five shingle beaches around the coast of Wales. The five beaches are (from north to south): Pensarn; Morfa Dinlle; Borth; Amroth; Leys Beach (Aberthaw).
Particle size information was collected using digital grain size analysis. Both an excel file containing the particle size analysis, images of grain size histograms and the raw digital data are provided.
The data was collected to enable assessment of suitable quarry sources of shingle for beach renourishment.

Digital grain sizing method followed Buscombe, D. (2013), Transferable wavelet method for grain-size distribution from images of sediment surfaces and thin sections, and other natural granular patterns. Sedimentology, 60: 1709-1732. https://doi.org/10.1111/sed.12049
At each study site, digital samples were collected from up to 10 cross-shore transects with a maximum of 7 sample points per transect. Each of the transects had a minimum alongshore spacing of 50 m, and each survey point along the transect had a minimum cross-shore spacing of 10 m
