A total of 366 1km squares were surveyed from the ground in the 2021 gull breeding season. The squares, as determined by JNCC/NRW, were a stratified random sample based on the number of urban squares, and the ratio of strata, found within each administrative area. Streets within the survey square were walked to count the number of gulls seen associated with urban environment by surveyors with experience in bird surveys and gull identification.
For more details on the survey limitations or methodology then please look at the associated report.
