Coedydd Nantgwynant Bryophyte Monitoring 2025
Entirely contained within Meirionnydd Oakwoods and Bat Sites SAC, Coedydd Nantgwynant SSSI comprises three units of land in which the main habitat of interest is Atlantic woodland and one of its key features is the oceanic bryophyte flora. Compared to other comparable sites in Snowdonia, the bryophyte flora of the SSSI has received little survey attention. There has been some casual recording of bryophytes, but the only commissioned survey has been that of M.E. Newton in 2002, in addition to a species-specific survey of Sematophyllum demissum by D.A. Callaghan in 2014 (Callaghan 2014).
Using grid-mapping and fixed-point photographic plots, the aim of this study was to provide a base-line monitoring survey of the Atlantic woodland bryophyte assemblage of Coedydd Nantgwynant SSSI.
