Upland Vegetation Survey and Lowland Grassland Survey of Wales Brecknock spreadsheets (1991-1995)
The purpose of this data capture was to inform site selection and develop understanding of the semi-natural vegetation cover of Wales. The upland data covers all the major upland blocks in Wales; the grassland data is restricted to Brecknock sites. Approximately 60 spreadsheets of Upland data (environmental, habitat type, statutory classifications and grid referenced sites). Data from various times between 1991 to 1995. Collation and analysis of data collected by the Wales Field Unit Upland Vegetation Survey 1979-1989 and a small number of subsequent upland NVC surveys in the early 1990s.

A Field-based vegetation survey approach was taken to collect the data. The field survey was carried out in-house by Countryside Council for Wales, by closely co-ordinated teams of highly qualified surveyors. Many upland sites were re-visited between 1994-1996 to check the validity of field records. The Upland Vegetation Survey maps were subsequently digitised and combined with maps from the companion Phase 1 Survey of the lowlands 1987-1997 to create the all-Wales Phase 1 habitat maps. The Brecknock grassland data forms part of the Phase 2 Lowland Grassland Survey of Wales (see metadata entry 110956). The maps from this survey have been fully digitised and all quadrat data is stored in Recorder 6 Habitats Database.
