Marine and Estuarine Fish Database
Marine and estuarine fishes are important components of the coastal environment and their presence/absence is seen as indicative of the state of inshore seas. In view of the conservation significance of marine fishes as a major component of the marine and estuarine environment the conservation agencies of the UK have statutory obligations to examine current conservation requirement of the marine fish fauna and to establish and maintain a monitoring programme by which to review their status. Other literature sources were obtained through the National Lending Library inter-library loan scheme.

The species list of marine and estuarine fishes of Wales was compiled after extensive literature searches using the library of the Marine Biological Association with its special publication 'The bibliography of the estuaries and costal waters of the British Isles' its South West Waters database and the Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstract CD-rom retrieval system. The review brings together all major information sources on the marine and estuarine fishes of Wales. The publication date of the Marine and Estuarine Fishes of Wales Report has been used for the End Date of the metadata as no dates of data collection have been made clear within the report. The only data held is that within the report itself.
