Peregrine breeding population surveillance in Pembrokeshire (1981-2013)
This is a non spatial datasets map up of species data from the surveillance of Peregrine (Falco peregrinus) breeding populations around Pembrokeshire, south Wales. The surveys cover both coastal and inland monitoring, and just contains Peregrine data points. There were both local and national reasons for this data collection. Local Purposes: a) To maintain records of Pembrokeshire breeding population of peregrines, to service update/data requirements for local peregrine Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP), in partnership with other members of Pembrokeshire Bird Group. b) To assess the condition of peregrine as an Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) feature in Castlemartin Cliffs and Dunes SSSI for Castlemartin Range Integrated Land Management Plan. c) To maintain records of concentrations of peregrine relevant to management of recreation (sea cliff-climbing and coasteering) National Purposes: a) To contribute to decadal national/international surveys - normally managed by the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO). b) To contribute to all Wales database maintained by the RSPB, via Wales Raptor Study Group (when requested).

This data is a collated summary records of Pembrokeshire (Vice County 45) breeding peregrine activity. It contains records of territory occupancy and where possible confirmation of breeding outcome at each known territory/nest site. Information based on coordinated counts of sites by members of Pembrokeshire Bird Group, Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) staff and general public were compiled on spreadsheet and imported into Recorder 6. Breeding activity and productivity of the population is recorded annually, (including GIS register of nest site locations) from cliff-tops. This dataset is linked to periodic decadal national surveys, e.g. 1981, 1991, 2002.
