Cronfa Ddata Mannau Clwydo Ystlumod - Sir Drefaldwyn
This dataset contains records of all bat species recorded from roosts within Montgomeryshire. The purpose of the data collection was to document species distribution and roost information to support Natural Resources Wales' (NRW's) conservation work.
In particular, the dataset provides information to assist with the assessment of development proposals, support the monitoring and notification of Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs), and contribute to the monitoring and reporting of the status and trends of protected bat species.
The dataset also includes information on the abundance of each species at individual roost locations.
The records were extracted from source files as part of an exercise undertaken by the Local Records Centre on behalf of the former Countryside Council for Wales (CCW).
The master copy of the dataset is held by the Powys and Brecon Beacons Biodiversity Information Service (BIS) Local Records Centre. An older copy is held within NRW's Recorder 6 database under CCW Montgomeryshire General Bat Files (WA0001500000001O); however, this version has not been updated since 2003.

This dataset was compiled from records held within the former Countryside Council for Wales' regional site files, together with data collected during visits to bat roosts by Countryside Council for Wales staff and volunteers.
The records were initially collated in paper format and subsequently transferred to Recorder 6 under an agreement with the Powys and Brecon Beacons Biodiversity Information Service (BIS) Local Records Centre. An electronic copy was then provided to Natural Resources Wales (NRW) for local storage at the Newtown office.
The dataset has been validated, although a small number of outliers remain.
The master copy of the dataset is held by the Powys and Brecon Beacons Biodiversity Information Service (BIS) and is also available through the National Biodiversity Network (NBN).

Part of this dataset is sensitive and restricted. The sensitive data is as follows a) Location of bat roosts in private buildings or underground sites, at a more detailed scale than 1km square (4-figure grid reference). Disclosure would adverse affect the protection of the species due to risk of disturbance and alienation of the landowner. b) Names and addresses of landowners, and names of recorders for which NRW does not have consent to release. Sensitive data must be kept confidential; general release is not permitted due to risk of harm to the environment or third parties. Sensitive data may only be released under an appropriate NRW Licence. Requests should be referred to NRW's Access to Information Officer. Data may be released freely if the sensitive records are removed in advance, or shown only at a coarser scale.
