Bat Roosts Database - Pembrokeshire (1887 - 2011)
This dataset comprises of former Countryside Council for Wales' regional bat hibernacula and day/night roost records for Pembrokeshire. The purpose of this data capture was to record species distribution and details of bat roosts to assist with the former Countryside Council for Wales' (CCW) bat conservation work. In particular, to provide information when dealing with development proposals, to support the monitoring and notification of Sites of Special Scientific Interest, and to aid with the monitoring and reporting on the status and trends of protected bat species across Pembrokeshire. Ad hoc survey work is continuing however the main data was collected between 1887 and 2011.

The data are derived from bat records sourced from former CCW horseshoe bat, and other species, hibernaculum indexed record cards and various reports, now held at the Natural Resources Wales’ Stackpole office. This dataset excludes horseshoe bat breeding roost adult counts, (i.e. nursery roost adult counts, summary data from automatic counters and productivity records) from across Pembrokeshire. These are covered by other surveys. It also excludes Pembrokeshire Bat Sites and Limestone Coast of South Wales summer and winter bat roost counts and surveillance data. Again these records are covered by other bat surveys. These records have been digitised and entered into the Recorder 6 database. NRW manage and hold the top copy of this dataset which now remains static with 1622 records.

Part of this dataset is sensitive and restricted as it contains data exempt from general release under EIR. 1) Location of bat roosts on private property or underground, shown as 6 figure grid reference. Disclosure would adverse affect the protection of the species due to risk of disturbance and alienation of the landowner; 2) Names and addresses of landowners, and names of recorders for which NRW does not have consent to release. Sensitive data must be kept confidential; general release is not permitted due to risk of harm to the environment or third parties.
