Yr Wyddfa/Snowdon Terrestrial Environmental Change Network (ECN) Site - Physical Data

Physical data collected at the Environmental Change Network (ECN) terrestrial site - Yr Wyddfa. The 700ha site incorporates the summit of Yr Wyddfa and includes three additional summits over 800m, it also includes 5 lakes. It is part of Yr Wyddfa National Nature Reserve managed by NRW. Measurements are taken of various meteorological, surface water and soil variables. The purpose of this data capture was to use the observed changes in physical variables to indicate the possible causes and consequences of environmental change in the terrestrial environment. Lineage: Meteorology: both unattended and attended recordings of meteorological data are made at ECN's sites. Automatic Weather Stations record 13 variables hourly e.g. solar radiation, wind speed, rainfall, soil temperature, and surface wetness. Standard Meteorological Observations are used to measure 14 variables daily e.g. max and min temperatures, soil temperatures, snow depth, sunshine. The rain sample data collected contributes to the Acid Water Deposition Monitoring network. Surface water discharge: continuous discharge measurements are taken. The data is sent to CEH Merlewood where it is checked and transferred into a centralised database managed by the ECN Central Coordinating Unit (CCU) incorporating data from all ECN sites across the UK.
