Towed Video Surveys off the Coastline of the Llyn Peninsula North Wales (2013)
Surveys of the seabed were carried out using towed dropdown video surveys were taken aboard Lara B and William Stanley, both fishing vessels operating around Llyn Peninsula, Gwynedd, North Wales.
A total of 38 video tows were collected from infralittoral and circalittoral habitats at the following five locations offshore from the Llyn Peninsular North Wales; Llyn-Hells Mouth, Ynys Gwlan, Porth Meudwy, North Llyn Modiolus and North Llyn sea Grass. Where available HD GoPro video footage was used in the analyses, however if this was not possible a lower quality standard definition footage was used. The locations of the video tows were made into GIS files as a spatial representation of the location of the tow surveys. Video surveys were conduct to conduct ground-truthing surveys through the seabed around the Llyn Peninsula, Gwynedd, North Wales.

Drop-down video tows were carried out onboard small fishing boats using a High Definition (HD) GoPro video camera (approximate field of view is 100cm in the middle of the picture) and a Standard Definition ROVTECH Systems Micro Hi-Res Digital Colour Camera (1/3 inch Sony HAD CCD - 480 TV lines resolution) with 4.3mm wide angle lens (approx. 80 degrees in water) and Mini Seabeam Lights. A manual log was kept of the location of the start and end of the transects, which were later digitized via GIS files.
The video surveys were analysed for habitats, species and biotopes by Marine EcoSol using standard MNCR derived techniques and JNCC Marine Habitat Classifications. Drop-down video tows were carried out by Salacia Marine whilst onboard small fishing vessels.
