Ymchwilio Ymddygiad ac Ecoleg y Falwen Ludiog Myxas glutinosa mewn Amodau allan yn y Maes yn Llyn Tegid (2016)
The Glutinous Snail (Myxas glutinosa) is a rare aquatic species in Britain, now restricted to a single known population in Llyn Tegid. Following successful captive-breeding trials and the insights gained from them, a programme of field-based experimental work was initiated to improve understanding of the species' ecology and inform future conservation management. The project aimed to investigate habitat preferences, responses to fluctuating water levels, movement patterns within the lake, and the potential value of artificial refuges for supporting populations. The first phase of the project involved the installation of bespoke concrete refuges and the commencement of monitoring to assess their use by Myxas glutinosa and to help identify areas of suitable habitat within Llyn Tegid.

Bespoke concrete refugia were installed at selected locations around the lake and monitored to assess their suitability for supporting Myxas glutinosa. Survey data were collected through visual searches and stone-turning at suitable habitats, together with inspections of the artificial refugia. Observations from these surveys were used to improve understanding of habitat use, distribution, and management opportunities for the species. The results contribute to ongoing conservation efforts and the development of management measures aimed at supporting population recovery and potential re-establishment within the species' former range.
