Habitats Directive: Article 17 Terrestrial Habitats Cycle 1 (2007)
This is a spatial dataset collated as part of the Habitats Directive reporting cycle 1 for Article 17 terrestrial habitats. Article 17 required a report to be sent to the European Commision every 6 years follwoing an agreed format. JNCC collate theses on behalf of the UK Country Agencies, and this data was sent to JNCC for the collation.
Article 17 reports are an assessment of conservation status of the habitat and species targetted by the directive. The assessment is made based on information on status and trends of species populations or habitats and on information on main pressures and threats. An important component of the Article 17 report is a map of habitat or species distribution mapped in 10x10 km grid.

- Siliceous alpine and boreal grasslands
- semi natural dry grasslands on calcareous substrates
- species rich nardus grassland
- Molinia meadows
- hydrophilous tall herb fringe communities
- lowland hay meadows - active raised bogs
- degraded raised bogs
- blanket bogs
- transition mires
- Rhynchosporion
- calcareous fens with Cladium
- Petrifying springs with tufa
Alkaline fens
- Alpine pioneer formations
- Siliceous scree
- Calcareous and calcshist screes
- Calcareous rocky slopes
- Siliceous rocky slopes
- limestone pavements
- Atlantic acidophilous beech forest
