The status of the blackfly Simulium morsitans on the Afon Teifi at Cors Caron National Nature Reserve - 2018
The Afon Teifi at Cors Caron supports the only recently recorded UK population of the blackfly Simulium morsitans Edwards (Diptera: Simuliidae). The true extent of its UK distribution and status remain uncertain although Simuliidae are increasingly identified to species level during routine river quality monitoring. This survey shows the results of samples and observations of simuliid larvae and pupae collected in early August 2018 and compares the results with a similar survey undertaken in 2008.
