Habitats Regulations 9A Wales Reporting 2019-2024 Dataset
This dataset supports Wales’s first country-level assessment under Regulation 9A of the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2017 (as amended) for the reporting period 2019–2024. It brings together evidence across terrestrial, freshwater, and marine environments for Annex I habitats, Annex II, IV and V species (excluding birds), and all regularly occurring wild bird species in Wales. The resource includes conservation status assessments for habitats and non-bird species, bird population status and trends with associated pressures and conservation measures.
The data were compiled by Natural Resources Wales on behalf of Welsh Government using the UK-wide methodology set out in the JNCC Approach Document, drawing on NRW monitoring programmes, partner agencies, NGOs, research institutions, and citizen science schemes. All data have undergone quality assurance and expert review to meet statutory reporting requirements and provide an evidence base for biodiversity conservation and policy in Wales.

Supporting information spreadsheets for habitat, non-bird species and marine species
These supporting information spreadsheets are a download of the reporting information for Wales, and provide all results for each habitat and species from Wales with audit notes where relevant.
For marine species the spatial scale used is the UK level or Marine Management Units.
- Wales habitats supporting information data
- Wales non-bird species supporting information data
- UK and Management Unit (MU) marine species supporting information data
For habitats, the reporting sections include:
1. General information; 2. Maps; 3. Biogeographical and marine regions; 4. Range; 5. Area covered by habitat; 6. Structure and functions; 7. Main pressures and threats; 8. Conservation measures; 9. Future prospects; 10. Conservation status conclusions and trend; 11. UK National Site Network (pSCIs, SCIs and SACs) coverage for Annex I habitat types; 12. Complementary information.
For species, the reporting sections include:
1. General information; 2. Maps; 3. Information related to Annex V species; 4. Biogeographical and marine regions; 5. Range; 6. Population; 7. Habitat for the species; 8. Main pressures and threats; 9. Conservation measures; 10. Future prospects; 11. Conservation status conclusions and trend; 12. UK National Site Network (pSCIs, SCIs and SACs) coverage for Annex II species; 13. Complementary information
Summary of conclusion spreadsheets for habitat, non-bird species and marine species
These summary of conclusion spreadsheets provide an overview of the Wales Favourable Conservation Status (FCS) Assessments and short term trends for habitats and non-bird species and marine species.
