2024 NRW Cardigan Bay SAC Sabellaria Reef Monitoring
In Cardigan Bay SAC, the relevant Annex I intertidal habitat features are Reefs. Specific areas of interest include areas of Sabellaria reef. Monitoring sites were established at Aberaeron and Cei Bach in 2007 and the fauna and flora have been re-surveyed on an annual basis.
This file contains the reduced survey data collected in 2024.

Methodology: Two sites (Aberaeron and Cei Bach), a series of stations at each site, 15 randomly placed 0.25m2 quadrats at each station (5 full survey (all species), 10 surveyed for Sabellaria cover). In-situ recording of all visible species. Percentage cover of selected species. Presence of other species.
Purpose: Long-term monitoring to maintain a baseline of data that can be used for regular assessment of condition of the SAC, to study any changes over time, and to understand the scale of natural temporal fluctuations in those communities and species.
This data is closely allied to NRW_DS115072 - Intertidal Monitoring of Sabellaria Reef in Cardigan Bay Special Area of Conservation (SAC) 2008, which is part of NRW_DS109834 - Across Wales Intertidal Monitoring Survey.
