Wales Survey Inventory (WALSIN) Data
Index to all environmental surveys of NC/NCC since 1949 and bibliography of all files held by NCC, including archives from approximately 1900 until March 1992. It lists every file note that holds survey information but it does not hold actual data. Every survey has a separate entry on the database consisting of two screens: the first screen contains structured data giving bibliographic, geographic and scientific details for the survey, the second, a summary of the survey's objectives, methodology, results and conclusions together with notes on the number of sites in the survey, maps and photographs. Generally the records are limited to one line of information in the objectives, methodology, results and conclusions fields. WALSIN can only be used for archival storage and retrieval and does not allow new data input.

This dataset was compiled when the NCC split into SNH, EN and CCW. For methods of data capture see WALSIN User Manual. Confidence in data: Files previously held in the Fishguard office and Brecon Becon National Park were not included. Data was originally catalogued within the CCW Integrated Sites Information System (ISIS) Database but was extracted and moved to NRWs Document Management System as part of the decommission of the ISIS system.
